Motorcycle, ATV & Boat Insurance in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma law requires liability insurance on every street legal motorcycle, but not on your boat or your four wheeler. That gap is where most riders and boaters get hurt financially. Here is exactly what each coverage does, what it does not do, and what we recommend for Oklahoma City, Edmond, Yukon, Mustang, Moore and Norman.

The short answer: most of our Oklahoma clients pay $400 to $900 a year for a motorcycle, $200 to $400 for an ATV or side by side, and $300 to $800 for a boat or personal watercraft. A street motorcycle must carry at least 25/50/25 liability by law. Boats, jet skis, ATVs and UTVs carry no state insurance requirement, but your marina, your lender and your homeowners policy exclusions usually make coverage necessary anyway.

One thing we will tell you up front: we do not like writing anyone at Oklahoma state minimum limits. $25,000 of property damage does not replace a new truck, and $25,000 of bodily injury does not cover one ambulance ride and one surgery. The jump from 25/50/25 to 100/300/100 is one of the smallest price increases in insurance and one of the biggest protection increases. We will quote the minimum if you insist, but we will show you the better limit next to it every time.

Real Numbers

How much does motorcycle, ATV and boat insurance cost in Oklahoma City?

These are the annual premium ranges we actually quote for Oklahoma clients, not national averages pulled from a comparison site. Where you land in the range depends on the unit, your record, your limits and how much of it you insure.

What you are insuringTypical annual premiumWhat moves you up or down in the range
Motorcycle$400 to $900 / yearEngine size, sport bike versus cruiser, your Class M endorsement and how long you have had it, rider course, liability only versus full coverage, and how much custom parts coverage you schedule.
ATV / UTV / Side by Side$200 to $400 / yearATV versus a big multi seat UTV, whether it is used for farm or ranch work, whether riders under 18 are on it, where it is stored, and whether you insure the trailer with it.
Boat / Pontoon / Personal Watercraft$300 to $800 / yearTotal horsepower and top speed above everything else, hull value, agreed value versus actual cash value, whether you add on water towing and personal effects, and whether you take a lay up credit for the winter.

Annual premium ranges reflect actual quotes written by OKC Insurance Brokers for Oklahoma clients as of 2026. Your price depends on your unit, your driving record, your limits and your carrier. These figures are typical, not guaranteed, and only a quote on your specific machine is a real number.

Two things move these numbers more than people expect. Bundling the unit with your auto or home policy usually takes a real bite out of the premium, and raising liability from state minimum to 100/300/100 costs far less than most riders assume.

Every Coverage Explained

What does each motorcycle, ATV and boat coverage actually pay for?

This is the full menu we quote from. Nothing here is filler. Every line is a coverage you can add, drop or adjust on the quote form, and every line changes your price.

Bodily Injury & Property Damage LiabilityInjuries and property damage you cause to other people. Oklahoma minimum on a street bike is 25/50/25. Most riders should carry 100/300/100 because a single serious injury claim blows through $25,000 in a day.RequiredYesYes
Uninsured & Underinsured MotoristPays YOU when the driver who hit you has no insurance or not enough. Oklahoma consistently ranks among the worst states in the country for uninsured drivers, so on a motorcycle this is the coverage we argue hardest for.CriticalYesUninsured boater
Medical PaymentsYour own medical bills after a crash, no fault questions asked, usually $1,000 to $5,000. On a bike it fills the deductible gap on your health plan fast.YesYesYes
Guest Passenger LiabilityInjuries to the person riding behind you or the friends in your boat. Some carriers include it, some make it a separate add on, and a few exclude passengers entirely. We check.YesYesYes
ComprehensiveTheft, vandalism, fire, flood, hitting a deer, and the big one in Oklahoma, hail. A hailstorm that totals a bike parked in the driveway is a comprehensive claim, not a homeowners claim.YesYesYes

Fuel Spill Liability & Wreckage RemovalFederal law can hold you responsible for cleaning up your own fuel spill and removing your sunken boat. These costs are not optional and they are not small.n/an/aYes
Agreed Value vs Actual Cash ValueAgreed value pays the number written on the policy with no depreciation. Actual cash value pays depreciated value. On a boat or a custom bike this single choice can be a five figure difference at claim time.AskAskAsk
Total Loss ReplacementOn a new unit, replaces it with a brand new one instead of paying depreciated value. Usually available only in the first year or two.YesYesYes
Loan / Lease GapCovers the difference when you owe more than the unit is worth. Powersports depreciate fast, so this gap opens the day you ride off the lot.YesYesYes

What Oklahoma actually requires for each one

Oklahoma City boat insurance: jet ski, fishing boat, ski boat and powerboat insured by OKC Insurance Brokers
🏍️

Motorcycles & Scooters

Liability is mandatory on any motorcycle registered for the street, and Oklahoma verifies it electronically through the Oklahoma Compulsory Insurance Verification System. An officer can see your status at the stop.

  • Minimum 25/50/25 liability
  • Your auto policy does not extend to your bike
  • Class M endorsement affects both eligibility and price
  • A rider safety course earns a discount with most carriers
  • Hail damage in the driveway is a comprehensive claim
🛻

ATVs, UTVs & Side by Sides

No state insurance requirement, and that is exactly why people get caught out. Homeowners policies generally cover an off road vehicle only on your own property, and many exclude it entirely.

  • Ride off your land and homeowners coverage usually stops
  • Farm and ranch use changes which policy is correct
  • Riders under 18 are a rating and eligibility question
  • Little Sahara, Cross Bar Ranch and Disney trips need liability
  • Theft out of an open carport is common and covered
🚤

Boats, Pontoons & Jet Skis

Oklahoma requires you to title and register a motorized boat, but it does not require insurance. Your marina slip contract or your lender almost always does.

  • Most marinas require proof of liability before you slip
  • Lenders require comprehensive and collision
  • Homeowners covers only very small, low horsepower boats
  • Total horsepower and top speed drive the rate
  • Lay up credits for the winter months off the water
What People Actually Ask

The questions Oklahoma riders and boaters search for most

These come up in Google searches, in AI assistant answers and in rider and boater forums week after week. Here are straight answers from a licensed Oklahoma broker instead of a national call center script.

Does my auto insurance cover my motorcycle?

No. A motorcycle needs its own policy. Your auto policy will not respond to a crash on your bike, and the uninsured motorist coverage on your car does not automatically follow you onto two wheels either. This is the single most common and most expensive assumption we correct.

Does homeowners insurance cover my ATV?

Usually only while it is on your own property, and plenty of policies exclude off road vehicles completely. The moment you trailer it to a park, a lease, a friend's land or a public trail, you are almost certainly uninsured for liability. Read the exclusions or send us the policy and we will read them for you.

Is boat insurance required in Oklahoma?

Not by the state. It is required in practice by marinas that want proof of liability before they rent you a slip, and by every lender financing a boat. It is also the only thing standing between you and a fuel spill cleanup bill or a wreck removal order.

Do I need a motorcycle endorsement to get insured?

Most carriers will quote you without a Class M endorsement, but the price is higher and some will not bind until you have it. Getting endorsed and taking a rider course usually pays for itself in the first year of premium.

Can I drop coverage over the winter?

Please do not drop it entirely. Cancel liability for the winter and you still own a bike or a boat that can be stolen, burned or hailed on in storage, and you create a lapse that raises your rate when you come back. Ask for a lay up or storage period instead, which keeps comprehensive active at a reduced rate.

Is my trailer covered by my boat policy?

Not automatically. The trailer is separate property with its own value, and it has to be listed. Same answer for the trailer hauling your side by side. It is a small premium and a very annoying uncovered loss.

What about hail?

Oklahoma hail is the reason comprehensive is not optional here. A single storm can total a parked motorcycle or punch through a boat cover and the fiberglass under it. If you carry liability only, none of that is covered. See our wind and hail deductible options for the same problem on your house.

Are my passengers covered?

Only if the policy includes guest passenger liability, and not every policy does. If you ride two up or take friends out on the water, this is not a line to skip.

Where You Ride And Launch

Built for how Oklahoma actually uses these machines

We are local. We write policies for people launching at the lakes an hour from our office and riding the roads we drive every day.

On the water

Lake Thunderbird, Lake Hefner, Lake Overholser, Lake Draper, Lake Arcadia, Grand Lake, Lake Eufaula, Tenkiller and Keystone. Slip contracts, ramp use and open water towing all get handled differently, so tell us where the boat lives.

🏜️

On the trails

Little Sahara State Park, Cross Bar Ranch, Disney and private leases. Racing and competition riding is excluded by most standard policies, so if you race, say so and we will find the market that allows it.

🛣️

On the road

Oklahoma City, Edmond, Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont, Moore, Norman and Midwest City. Route 66 and the Talimena Drive count as pleasure miles, and mileage is a rating factor worth getting right.

How It Works

How to get quoted in about five minutes

1

Fill out the quote form

Open the motorcycle, ATV and watercraft quote form, pick your unit type at the top, and the form shows only the questions that apply to it. Have the VIN, HIN or serial number handy, plus the year, make and model. If you already have a policy, upload the declarations page and skip most of the typing.

2

We shop it across our carriers

We are an independent brokerage, so we are not defending one company's rate. We run your unit through the carriers that are actually competitive for it, including Progressive, Dairyland, Foremost, Safeco, Mercury and Travelers depending on the risk.

3

You get options, not one number

We come back with real choices side by side and explain what changes between them. If you want to bind, most of these can go into force the same day, including proof of insurance sent straight to your lender or your marina.

FAQ

Motorcycle, ATV and boat insurance questions in Oklahoma

Is motorcycle insurance required in Oklahoma?
Yes. Every street legal motorcycle registered in Oklahoma must carry liability insurance of at least $25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 bodily injury per accident and $25,000 property damage, written as 25/50/25. Oklahoma verifies coverage electronically through the Oklahoma Compulsory Insurance Verification System, so a lapse can show up at a traffic stop and lead to fines and a suspended registration.
How much is motorcycle, ATV or boat insurance in Oklahoma City?
Based on the policies we write for Oklahoma clients, a motorcycle typically runs $400 to $900 a year, an ATV or side by side runs $200 to $400 a year, and a boat or personal watercraft runs $300 to $800 a year. Motorcycle price is driven by engine size, sport bike versus cruiser and your endorsement history. ATV price is driven by size, farm or ranch use and who rides it. Boat price is driven mostly by total horsepower and top speed. Bundling with your auto or home policy usually lowers all three.
Should I just buy Oklahoma state minimum liability limits?
We do not recommend it and we say so before you ask. Oklahoma state minimum is 25/50/25, which means $25,000 of property damage that will not replace a newer truck and $25,000 of bodily injury that will not cover one ambulance ride and one surgery. Anything above those limits comes out of your own pocket and your own assets. Moving up to 100/300/100 is one of the smallest premium increases in insurance for one of the largest jumps in protection, and adding a personal umbrella on top is cheaper still per dollar of coverage. We will write the minimum if you insist, but we will always show you the better limit beside it.
Is boat insurance required in Oklahoma?
No. Oklahoma requires a motorized boat to be titled and registered, but the state does not require insurance. In practice most marinas require proof of liability coverage before renting you a slip, and any lender financing the boat will require comprehensive and collision. Fuel spill cleanup and wreck removal costs are also on the owner, which is why we recommend coverage even when nobody is forcing it.
Does my homeowners insurance cover my ATV or UTV?
Usually only while the machine is on your own property, and many homeowners policies exclude off road vehicles entirely. As soon as you ride on public trails, leased land, a friend's property or a park, you are very likely uninsured for liability. A separate ATV or UTV policy is the correct fix.
Does my auto insurance policy cover my motorcycle?
No. A motorcycle requires its own policy. The liability, collision and uninsured motorist coverage on your car policy do not extend to a motorcycle you own. This is the most common and most costly misunderstanding we see in Oklahoma City.
Is my boat or ATV trailer covered automatically?
No. The trailer is separate property with its own value and it has to be listed on the policy to be covered. Adding it is inexpensive, and leaving it off is one of the more frustrating uncovered losses because the trailer is often damaged in the same event as the boat or the machine on top of it.
Can I cancel my motorcycle or boat insurance over the winter?
You can, but you should not. A stored bike or boat can still be stolen, burned or damaged by hail, and cancelling creates a coverage lapse that raises your price when you restart. Ask instead for a lay up or storage period, which reduces the premium for the months you are not riding or on the water while keeping comprehensive coverage in force.
Does insurance cover custom parts, accessories and gear?
Only up to the built in limit, which is often around $3,000, unless you schedule more. Exhaust, chrome, bags, stereo systems, lift kits, winches, wraps, fish finders and trolling motors add up fast. Riding apparel including your helmet, jacket, boots and gloves is a separate coverage that typically runs from $500 to $3,000 of protection.
How fast can you get me proof of insurance for a marina or a lender?
Usually the same day. We have bind on the spot authority with our carriers, so once you choose a quote we can put the policy in force and send proof of insurance directly to your marina, your dealer or your lienholder.
